An interesting turn of events happened at the 2010 World Series of Poker. Someone got banned. For life.

Jack Effel, the Director of the tournament, explained that it happens when you take someone else’s chips. This was the fault of the player at the WSOP event who was escorted off the table and out of the Amazon Room during the 3rd level of the $1,000 No Limits Hold’em.

A man in his 50s maybe with gray hair and all was escorted out of the playing room by three security guards.

The director of the tournament explained that something happened during the end of level 2 when the 20 minute break started. The players who were not in any hand went for their break.

It turned out that the Baseball Cap culprit was not contented with the pot he was in but went to rake in some extra chips from the player next to him. Remember that the players were on break. The dealers eye was off the table so the Baseball Cap pulled his chips with only one hand using the other hand to lean on the table to support himself. In fact, he just did not use the other arm as leverage but also use it to swipe some chips towards him.

It was not reported how the stealing was done but the security videos of the Amazon Room left no doubt that something uber-wrong was done. The player was immediately escorted out.

Jack Effel emphatically said that the player will be banned from WSOP forever.

Seven Deuce off Suit diamonds and clubsMaking right the right choices during a game of poker is crucial to taking home some chips. What do you do when you make a continuation bet and your opponent calls it? You might be facing an awkward situation and one option is to double barrel.

Double barreling is quit difficult to learn and master. What you do is fire another barrel or make another bet on the turn after your opponent calls your continuation bet.

You have to remember some basics so you don’t end up crying after the game if you plan on trying to double barrel:

Don’t double barrel a calling station

It could be fun throwing money at someone but you need to remember that it will not be productive if you try to bluff someone who rarely folds his card. Double barrel a calling station and say goodbye to your bankroll.

    Reads as always are essential

It will be very helpful if you know that your opponent folds when he doesn’t have good cards and it is also very useful when you know that someone loves showdowns with every deal you get. The more you know about your opponent the easier it is to know if its good to double barrel.

Check your equity before double barreling

This simply means don’t force a double barrel if you do not have some chance of grabbing the chips for the hand. Like in other bluffing scenarios, having some equity is always better.

Fire a second barrel when your opponent is scared of the turn card

When you get an over card for the flop, this might be the best situation to double barrel. These cards may hit our range and has a higher chance that you u hold better cards than your opponent. If the turn is a scare card for your opponent then they will be a lot happier to fold and just save their chips when you fire a barrel. Also – you may have improved your potential to as little as a gutshot straight draw, which is enough to continue firing very often…

carbon-poker-cards-300x199I have to say that when I first started playing poker, there were so many mistakes that I had absolutely no idea that I was making.  There are actually a ton of different mistakes that beginners make all of the time that you should avoid whenever you are trying to break into the poker market.

First – playing too many hands.  I know that when you first start playing poker, you want to jump the gun and actually play, but the more hands you play, the more money you are going to be losing and that is not something that is the name of the game.

Next, playing above your bankroll and not knowing the rules of the game prior to playing.  These are two key mistakes that many beginner poker players actually make all of the time and this is definitely something that you should watch out for!

Paris HiltonThis is one sight that I never, ever thought that I would see.  While poker is definitely a serious game, Paris Hilton is not a serious person.  She is all about partying and having fun and poker is not all that fun … unless you are winning and heck, in this game she might be winning.

Poker is not just something that you play with your buddies anymore, it is actually a game that celebrities have taken to quite well and Paris is just one of the many celebrities that have been caught playing poker.

So Paris, do you want to give us some tips and tricks that you might have used when you are playing?  Come on, you can share – right?

7cs 2Now, as in pretty much every other poker game, although it may be called by a different name, you begin 7 Card Stud by paying up the ante. In other words, the players put a set amount into the pot. 7 Card Stud has six stages. They are called: third street; fourth street; fifth street; sixth street; the river; and, finally, the showdown. Following the ante, every player receives two cards face down, known as the hole cards, and one card face up. This is the third street.

Whichever player has the highest face up card starts the betting. He or she either checks or bets. Following that move, the rest of the players either call, raise, or fold. After this, the fourth, fifth, and sixth streets follow, which each player being dealt one more face up card for each street.

The river is marked by the seventh card, and it is face down as well. After it is dealt, the last betting round occurs, making for the showdown.

7cs 17 Card Stud is a much loved variation of poker. The problem is that it is also notoriously popular in movies and television shows, and that is where a lot of people “learn” how to play it. Needless to say, the lessons there are not entirely correct, so hopefully the next couple of posts will be able to clear up some things.

First of all, knowing how to play 7 Card Stud makes a great basis for learning other variations of poker, like Texas Hold ‘Em and Omaha. The ranking order for hands and cards is the same as it is in most other versions of poker.

A Royal Flush, for example, is the highest hand you can get, followed by: a Straight Flush; four of a kind; a Full House; a Flush; a Straight; three of a kind; two pair; one pair; and a high card. It is harder to be dealt a high hand in this version, because there aren’t any community cards.

raise-2Even novice poker players know how very important it is to get information from your opponents. Thus, it probably comes as no surprise to know that you can use raising and betting as a means to get that information. You can learn a lot about your fellow players when you bet.

Just say you are going heads up against an opponent. In that case, betting at any of the flops may interest you, because his will cause your opponent to do one of two things, most likely: he or she will either bluff out right or will have to call — if, of course, he or she has the kind of hand to make it worthwhile. When you do this, there is an excellent chance that you will be able to take the pot right then and there.

This can be an excellent strategy, especially with tight players. However, while it should be a weapon in your arsenal, do not use it all the time. The other players will be paying attention as well, and may begin to doubt you, to think that you never have a good hand.
